- Filter Type:
Graduated neutral density filter, also known as ND grad filter.
Graduated neutral density filters are especially needed in contrasty landscapes or scenes where balancing of light intensity between parts of the frame is needed. For example bright skies with darker lower scenery. Graduated neutral density filters are partially clear and partial dark (Neutral density effect). Available in 1-4 stops light reduction. There are usually 2 types of transitions between the clear and darker areas of the filter-soft edge and hard edge. They allow the transition to be blended into the scene, often invisibly. The soft edge is recommended for wide angle lenses and the hard edge is recommended for normal and longer lenses.

ND 0.9 3 stops of neutral light reduction - on top of the filter, Soft Edge transition (between clear and darker areas)
